DATS did not begin in a meeting room
It began through conversations over tea and biscuits, after supervision, during walks and sometimes after experiences that left us both asking:
“I wonder why that happened?”
That is probably what we have most in common.
We are both naturally curious about people. We enjoy exploring different perspectives, questioning assumptions and reflecting on the many different ways people experience the world.
Those conversations continue to shape not only our work as counsellors, but also the kind of training school we wanted to create.
DATS has grown from those conversations.
It is a place where reflection matters, where different perspectives are welcomed and where learning is seen as something we experience together rather than something that is simply delivered.
We do not expect everyone to think the same way, learn in the same way or arrive with the same experiences.
In fact, we believe those differences are one of the greatest strengths we bring to a learning community.
Loren Johnson
NCPS (Acc.) Counsellor / Clinical Supervisor / Co-Founder of DATS
Loren has always been interested in understanding people rather than defining them.
She is often curious about what sits beneath first impressions and why we can be so quick to decide who people are, including ourselves.
Those questions continue to shape her work as a counsellor, clinical supervisor and co-founder of DATS: creating a place where people are encouraged to question, reflect and discover possibilities they may never have considered before.
Kate Linden-Wyatt
MBACP Counsellor / Supervisor / Co-Founder of DATS
Kate brings professional counselling and training experience alongside lived experience of dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD.
She believes difference is something to understand, not overcome, and that there is rarely one “right” way to learn, participate or grow.
Those beliefs continue to shape the learning experience at DATS.
What We Believe
We believe great counsellors aren’t defined by where they start. They develop through reflection, relationship, practice and a willingness to keep learning. Our role is to provide the challenge, support and encouragement that helps learners grow into the practitioners they’re capable of becoming.
